Who can apply for this course?

The NVQ Level 3 in Playwork is open to individuals of all ages who are currently working in a childcare setting. You must also demonstrate that you are capable of supervising others, or adept at working unsupervised.

Are there any entry requirements for this course?

There are two requirements for NVQ Level 3 in Playwork:

  1. you must be working in a in a position with some supervisory duties
  2. you must have competent literacy and communication skills

How long will it take me to complete this course?

Our NVQ courses are unique – we like to tailor your course to meet your particular needs, and to set the course to your own pace. It usually takes 9 months to complete our NVQ Level 3 in Playwork.

As the NVQ is a work-based qualification, you will continue working throughout the duration of the course, and our peripatetic assessors will visit you on-site to assess your work.

How are courses taught? Will I have to attend tutorials?

To complement the practical side of the NVQ Level 3 in Playwork – namely your workplace activities and tasks – we can also run group tutorials, twice a month.

The tutorials cover the theoretical aspects of the course, with the intention that you take the theory and turn it into practice at your workplace.

The group tutorials take place at either a children’s centre near your home or at the JAM office, with a maximum of 12 students per group.

What course materials will I need?

JAM will provide you with a folder of relevant material.

How will I be assessed?

The majority of the assessment for the NVQ Level 3 in Playwork is carried out by our peripatetic assessors, who will visit you at work and observe your general workplace activities with children, as well as practical tasks that you are set.

Students will be asked to create a portfolio of evidence, which will include workplace observations, knowledge questions, and work products.

Other forms of assessment, which you may be required to complete, include:

  • Report writing
  • Witness testimony

How is the course structured?

The NVQ Level 3 in Playwork is made up of 9 units – 5 mandatory units and 4 optional units. You must complete all 9 units to attain your certificate.

Do you provide support throughout the course?

At JAM we have a number of accredited NVQ trainers and assessors, who will support and encourage you throughout the course. You will also be assigned a mentor from our team of accredited NVQ trainers and assessors, who will offer advice and guidance as and when you need it.
